What do they accept?

Hazardous waste products are banned from landfill and require special disposal processing. These include:

  • garden chemicals – pesticides,herbicides and fungicides
  • insect repellents and rat poison
  • cleaners – oven cleaner, toilet cleaner, bleach, ammonia and furniture polish
  • automotive products – fuel, oils, lubricants and degreasers
  • home improvement products – paints*, thinners and adhesives, batteries, and pool chlorine.

Please note: NO decanting allowed on site. Use original containers where possible.

*Paint can also be dropped off at Hackham Recyclers for free as part of the national Paintback program.

Cans (food/drink)

Recycling bin  Put it in the yellow/recycling bin.

No need to remove the pull tab. Feel free to crush cans to make more room in your recycling bin.

Remember that most drink cans can also be returned to a bottle & can recycler to claim a 10c refund.

Recycling bin  Clean aluminium foil – scrunch into a fist sized ball and put in the yellow/recycling bin.

The collection and disposal of animals from private property is the responsibility of the property owner.

Animals can be taken to:

  • Local vets
  • Pet cemeteries/crematorium

Small animals & household pets

e.g. mice, rats, birds, chickens, cats, small dogs etc.

Smaller animals can be placed in compost or worm farms or buried in the garden.

Green organics bin  Can be placed in the green/organics bin.

If possible, wrap in newspaper first (no plastic).

OR

Place in the waste to landfill bin.

Please note Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) s responsible for the collection and disposal of animals from major arterial roads e.g. Main South Road, Southern Expressway, Victor Harbor Road, etc. for more information phone 1800 018 313.
